about

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE:

Once in a while comes an album of willful solitude that reminds us that somehow the universe is listening. Now split between Austin and Chicago, The Pilot Ships have unwittingly bested their previous imperceptible efforts.

There Should Be An Entry Here (AtaGlance), released in 1997, so wallowed in its obscurity that it proved that there was in fact no entry to be found. The Limits of Painting and Poetry continues where the Pilot Ships' previous recordings left off with more home-based apologias of isolation, wasted days and clandestine struggles for quiet moments.

The Limits of Painting and Poetry is a treatise on the subtle sounds of alternate speeds of life, sedative-induced lullabies, and the retreat routes of lonely overtures.

Originally scheduled to be released by an English label, the record was delayed by scant pocketbooks, label-owners' passive aggressiveness and postal strikes. Begun three years ago, somehow this cursed record is finished today. Recorded at the quartet's respected homes; Cheree Jetton (Bees Are Black), Chris Linnen (Monroe Mustang), Mike Linnen (Monroe Mustang), and Brian McBride (Stars of the Lid).

‘Like an old psychology text written in a foreign language, the Pilot Ships operate on the thin, grainy line demarcating cognition and mystery.’ - Austin Chronicle
