It is always scary to listen back to *really* old recordings after more than a couple decades. In the back of mind mind, I always remembered this EP from 1988 as being pretty solid, esp given when it was recorded and with what little equipment as we had back then.
And so, I was relieved and pleasantly surprised by how well it holds up. I can hear elements of what would become life long interests in minimalism, radio frequencies, musique concrète, and spontaneous improvisation.
Still several years from hearing Nurse With Wound for the first time, an affinity for the cut-up style and the often overlooked humor of Stapleton's work resonates backwards in time to this early recording.
Sadly, others of my recordings from this period do not hold up so well, hah. So, it is nice that I can share this one in particular as an example of my some of my earliest work.
